I was expecting more , the bulk of this were ads at the end for doomsday books, I could have googled what little information was in this ebook for free had I had more sense.

Let me make it clear, if you’re considering this book for consciousness-raising knowledge like I was, this is probably not what you’re expecting. That is the lens through which I write my review. I think the Hermetic Gnostics would agree that there is a form of alchemy in the pursuit of higher consciousness (and I’m not talking about ayahuasca, et al). It’s my understanding that the Staff of Thoth – later known as the Caduceus – was an emblem of achieving higher consciousness, and that Hermes Trismajistus claimed to be the reincarnation of Thoth. I see nothing here detailing the mysteries of the Caduceus. I have every intention of reading Corpus Hermeticum in pursuit of that knowledge despite my relative disappointment with this book.

If you’re expecting profound revelations from the knowledge of lost civilizations, don’t hold your breath. The handful of one-liners from Hermes is provincial, common and unsophisticated in the light of modern New Thought philosophies. I don’t disagree with anything he said, but there was just no ‘Wow! That was profound!’ moment. I would classify this as a pre-school synopsis for aligning the consciousness of the non-seeker prior to initiation.

Now, for the alchemy, I don’t fully comprehend. As an alchemist, I am a skilled cook who sometimes uses nutrition and nutriceutical principles for healing an strengthening the immune system – yet I might as well be that rhetorical pre-schooler I mentioned in the previous paragraph. I found the treatise by William Salmon in this book far more informative than the contents of the Emerald Tablets themselves. My curiosity is piqued but this student lacks a master.
